Salinas leaves the MSP: “These three years have been nine years of my life”

The hierarch maintained in statements to the press that “I have several roads that I have to close and community service chapters that are ongoing throughout October, November, December, January, but I do appreciate that it is not necessary to eternalize in the charges, that one is not screwed to the charges.” The hierarch indicated that he took on the task “with an extreme degree of responsibility. For me, these three years have been nine years of my life and also a great sacrifice on the part of my family. So I think it’s time to somehow round out the performance in a firm and orderly way. Above all, orderly, consensual and without leaving cracks”.
After his candidacy for the direction of PAHO, and not having accepted the position, Senator Guillermo Domenech (Caldildo Abierto) had indicated that Salinas would be a good running mate for Guido Manini Ríos with a view to 2024. “These are not electoral times . I am 95% a doctor and now I have an important job in the coming months and a horizon to round off my activity,” said Salinas when asked about it.
The leader of Cabildo Abierto, Manini Ríos, said that “Salinas’ decision must be respected. Yesterday we were talking with him and I already had that idea, which is why we had been talking for a long time”. Manini Ríos that the minister’s departure “is due to a personal situation” and President Lacalle Pou had already been informed some time ago.
Dr. Karina Rando continues to be mentioned as Salinas’s successor. The position of Minister of Health corresponds by political agreements to Cabildo Abierto. Rando is the General Director of Coordination of the MSP and she had an outstanding performance during the pandemic as well as in the coordination with ministries of health of the countries of the region. Professionally she is an anesthesiologist and has a Master of Public Health (MSc PH, Economic Stream) at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in London. She had several academic positions of teaching role in the Faculty of Medicine and Engineering, she was Associate Professor and Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, Professor of Physiopathology and Biomedical Engineering. She is a member of the Latin American Confederation of Anesthesiology-CLASA (member of the Transplant Committee) and a member of the Uruguayan Society of Anesthesiology.
