The Minister of Health, Daniel Salinas, said that the schedule to vaccinate children between the ages of 5 and 11 “already exceeds 50%” of the total population of that age and that around 70,000 children have already been vaccinated with one dose.
In an interview on La Pecera de Azul FM, Salinas added that the strongest work to come for this segment of the population will be in February, when a new stage of the town-to-town and neighborhood-to-neighborhood campaigns.
In these programs it is planned to bring both the vaccine for children under 11 years of age as well as any of the three doses for adults. The campaign will begin on February 7.
Salinas explained that in principle “Schools will not be taken as inoculation sites” because he trusts that with the aforementioned programs, an optimistic vaccination number will be reached for the beginning of classes.
He added that third doses for children ages 5-11 are not planned, but will be discussed for ages 12-17 in the coming weeks, as well as a fourth booster dose for adults.
Regarding the current situation in relation to the omicron variant, the minister said that “we will remain on a high plateau and we will gradually descend between now and February 15.”
Despite this, Salinas explained that it cannot be said that “the worst is over” because there is a gap in the impact on the health system. So there will be 30 days after February 15, in which the repercussions on CTI hospitalizations and deaths will be seen.
