Salhuana leaves open the possibility of repealing the controversial organized crime law

It is being evaluated. The President of Congress, Eduardo Salhuana, said that this Friday the 13th, at 9:00 am, the recently approved organized crime law will be evaluated in Congress, and he did not rule out that said law could be repealed.

“We will evaluate. I believe that Congress has to be receptive, Congress has to know how to listen. And if we have made a mistake, it also has to know how to rectify it. It is a possibility (that it may be revoked),” he said at a press conference.

He said that this Friday, the board of directors and congressmen will hold a meeting with public safety experts and personalities, and said that on that day they will evaluate the recently approved law against organized crime, due to the questions raised against it.

Last July, it is recalled, the Permanent Commission approved the substitute text of the opinion of bill No. 5981, which modifies the definition of criminal organization and requires that searches be carried out in the presence of the person involved and his lawyer.

On that date, the decision taken in the second vote resulted in 12 votes in favor, three against and nine abstentions.

“A criminal organization is considered to be any group with a complex, developed structure and a high operational capacity, made up of three or more people on a stable, permanent or indefinite basis, who, in a concerted and coordinated manner, share interrelated roles, for the commission of serious crimes punishable by imprisonment of more than six years, in order to obtain, directly or indirectly, control of the value chain of an illegal economy or market, in order to obtain economic benefit,” states the text of the new law.
