The total production of 2.55 million vehicles – cars, light commercial vehicles, trucks and buses – last year represented an increase of 9.7% compared to 2023, according to a survey by the National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea) . According to the entity, the result resulted in Brazil regaining its position as the eighth largest global vehicle producer from Spain in 2024.
In registrations, the closing was 2.635 million units, a volume 14.1% higher than the previous year, and higher than the global average, which was an increase of 2%. A data considered representative of 2024 was the sum of sales of light vehicles – new and used -, which reached 14.2 million, the highest result in the country’s history.
“Clearly, there is a pent-up demand for individual transport that is being increasingly met, thanks to better credit conditions,” said the president of Anfavea Márcio de Lima Leite, in a statement. Last year, according to the entity, there was a 36% increase in credit grants for financing new and used vehicles.
December exports represented the upward bias of the second half of the year, offsetting the performance considered weak by Anfavea in the first half, and practically equaled the result of 2023, indicating a 2025 of recovery in shipments.
In total, 398,500 vehicles were sent to other countries. “Argentina and Uruguay were the highlights in terms of growth, to the point of offsetting the decline in shipments to all other countries in Latin America”, assessed the entity.
Imports had 466.5 thousand registrations, an increase of 33% driven by the massive entry of electrified vehicles, especially from China. “This year it is necessary to rebalance the volumes of exports and imports, in order to avoid a new deficit in the trade balance, as occurred in 2024”, analyzed Leite.
