The first day of the year of the day without VAT, which took place this Friday, March 11, totaled sales of $9.1 billionin transactions made through 6,858,695 invoices, according to the report delivered by the Dian with a cutoff at midnight.

This digit exceeded expectations announced by merchants affiliated with Fenalco, who had previously estimated sales of $8 billion.
According to Dian’s report, the items that marked sales the most compared to the first day without VAT last year were sports articles, with 75%, followed by clothing with 57.1%, agricultural products for consumption with 44%, computers and peripherals with 38.4% and household appliances with 25.1%.

Likewise, in the electronic invoicing system of the DIAN, an increase in sales was reported in the departments of North of Santander, with 43.86%; Atlantic with 43.20%; Antioquia with 5.78%; and Santander with 2.70%, these data compared to the first day without VAT of 2021.
“In a month that historically is not one of high consumption, what better evidence than the data provided by the Electronic Invoice system in the last two years, to confirm that the growth in consumption set an important pattern in the dynamics and economic strength of Colombia”, said the director of the entity, Lisandro Junco.
Finally, sales through digital channels were $697 billion, which corresponds to 1.8 million digital transactions, according to the report of the Colombian Chamber of Electronic Commerce.
