The “Save to Cuba” conference, organized by the Cuban Democratic Board of Directors (DDC), seeks to “combine an effort arranged by the liberation” of the island.
Miami, United States. -Cuban-American congressmen María Elvira Salazar (FL-27) and Mario Díaz-Balart (FL-26) confirmed that they will participate in the “Save to Cuba” conference, to be held next Saturday, September 13 at the Big Five Club (600 SW 92 Avenue, Miami), as part of the celebrations for the 35th anniversary of the Cuban Democratic Board of Directors (DDC).

In another statement, relating to the participation of Mario Díaz-Balart at the “Save to Cuba” conference, the DDC points out describes the congressman for district 26 as “extraordinary federal legislator” and “defender of the cause of the freedom of Cuba”. He also points out that he serves as vice president of the Assignments Committee of the House of Representatives and president of a subcommittee on National Security, State Department and Related Programs.
The organization recalls its previous career in the Florida Legislature and provides biographical references: it was born in the United States, is the son of Cuban parents and comes from a family linked to the defense of human rights and the cause of the freedom of Cuba, “as was his brother Congressman Lincoln Díaz-Balart (EPD).” According to the DDC, it is a legislator who “since 2002 has worked tirelessly” for Florida and the United States and that “he has always said yes with the struggle for the freedom of Cuba.”
The DDC is a non -governmental organization founded in 1990 during the International Cuban Youth Congress for a Free Cuba (Miami Beach). In 2002 he changed his name to Cuban Democratic Directory to reflect his commitment to democratic values. Based in the United States, it offers material and humanitarian support to opposition organizations within the island, facilitates contacts between foreign journalists and sources in Cuba and promotes international solidarity with the opposition movement.
The Board of Directors is a signatory to the Agreement for Democracy in Cuba, is part of the Christian Democratic Organization of America and is an associate member of the Democratic International Union. Among its initiatives are the representation of the opposition movement to human rights and governments, the dissemination of the annual report Steps to freedom and the Radio República operation (daily transmissions to Cuba by short wave) focused on internal reality and activism.
