Salary increase for teachers: MEF transfers more than S/208 million and establishes a new salary scale

Salary increase for teachers: MEF transfers more than S/208 million and establishes a new salary scale

The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) took a key step in improving the salary conditions of the teaching profession by approving, at the end of November, a Supreme Decree that establishes the new Full Monthly Remuneration (RIM) for teachers in the Public Teaching Career, as well as the remuneration of contracted teachers and the amount of the allowance for additional work hours.

As part of this measure, the MEF has already transferred a total of S/208 million 675 thousand 888 to the Ministry of Education (Minedu) and the regional governments, as established in Supreme Decree No. 318-2025-EF, with the objective of financing the differential cost of the salary increase provided for the education sector.

Who benefits from the teacher salary increase?

The decree specifies that the resources will be used to cover the increase in the remuneration of three groups of teachers, as had already been indicated in Supreme Decree No. 277-2025-EF:

  • Teachers included in the Public Teaching Career, regulated by Law No. 29944.
  • Teachers hired under the Teaching Service Contract of Law No. 30328.
  • Teachers with managerial or hierarchical positions, as well as education specialists, who receive an additional allowance according to their teaching scale.

The funds will allow the new amounts to be applied effectively in the sector’s payrolls, guaranteeing the sustainability of the approved increase.

New Full Monthly Remuneration by teaching scale

One of the main changes is the setting of the amount of the RIM per hour of weekly-monthly work corresponding to the First Teacher Scale, which now amounts to S/116.69. On this basis, the income of the other scales is calculated.

In this way, the monthly salaries are established as follows:

First Scale:

S/3,500.70 for 30 hours

S/4,667.60 for 40 hours

Second Scale:

S/3,850.77 for 30 hours

S/5,134.36 for 40 hours

Third Scale:

S/4,200.84 for 30 hours

S/5,601.12 for 40 hours

Fourth Scale:

S/4,550.91 for 30 hours

S/6,067.88 for 40 hours

Fifth Scale:

S/5,251.05 for 30 hours

S/7,001.40 for 40 hours

Sixth Scale:

S/6,126.23 for 30 hours

S/8,168.30 for 40 hours

Seventh Scale:

S/6,651.33 for 30 hours

S/8,868.44 for 40 hours

Eighth Scale:

S/7,351.47 for 30 hours

S/9,801.96 for 40 hours

These amounts represent a significant readjustment for thousands of teachers throughout the country, according to their scale and workload.

How much will hired teachers earn?

In the case of contracted teachers, regulated by Law No. 30328, the decree establishes that the monthly remuneration for a 30-hour day will be S/3,500.70, applicable to the levels of initial, primary and secondary education, both in Regular Basic Education, Special, Alternative and Technical Productive Education.

Likewise, it is specified that:

  • Contracted teachers who work less than 30 hours will receive remuneration proportional to the hours actually worked.
  • The PRONOEI coordinators, as well as the coordinating teachers of the ONDEC and ODEC, will receive a monthly remuneration of S/4,667.60.
