Salary increase 2025 in Colombia: this is how income rises for those who earn more than the minimum

The minimum wage for 2025 in Colombia was adjusted with an increase of 9.54% as announced by President Gustavo Petro on December 24. This adjustment implies an increase of $123,500, establishing the monthly salary at $1,423,500 for workers who receive this base income.

In addition to the minimum wage, workers will receive transportation assistance set at $200,000 for the same year. This additional benefit brings the total monthly income to $1,623,500, amount that applies to those employees who meet the established requirements to receive this compensation.

The annual increase in the minimum wage and transportation assistance seeks to adjust the income of workers to the economic conditions of the country. These figures are essential for families’ financial planning.

It should be remembered that, although this increase is only mandatory for workers who earn the minimum wage, those who receive a higher remuneration also have the right to obtain an increase in their payment for the new year. The Constitutional Court advocates for salary equity, Well, the salary cannot be frozen while the cost of living increases every year.

How much would the salary increase for those who earn more than the minimum?

Colombian law states that, to protect the purchasing power of workers who earn more than the minimum wage, the adjustment must be made based on the CPI. That is, the increase should be, at least, the result of inflation in 2024.

According to President Gustavo Petro, inflation in 2024 will be around 5%. In that sense, a worker who earns, for example, $2,500,000, you may receive a monthly increase of $125,000, which means an increase of $62,500 biweekly.

According to DANE figures, In Colombia there are 5,004,000 workers whose income is between one and two minimum wages, which is equivalent to 22.3% of the total employed persons registered by the entity. Meanwhile, 3% of formal workers earn more than two minimum wages.

On the other hand, the increase in the minimum wage does not apply to Colombians who work informally, without formal contracts or access to social benefits, such as pension contributions, as well as for people linked under different modalities, such as independent workers or those with contracts for the provision of services.
