With the beginning of the year 2025, the salary increases agreed in the last round of collective bargaining in Uruguay. These adjustments, which range from 2.07% to 5.79%, vary depending on the sector of the economic activity and affect different labor groups from January 1, 2025.
According to the minutes published by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS), domestic workers will see an overall increase of 2.07%. This means that the minimum wage for a worker who works 44 hours a week and 25 monthly wages will go from $27,626 to $28,564. The minimum hourly award will also see an increase, going from $145.34 to $150.27.
Salary adjustments in the supermarket and education sector
The employees of supermarketsas well as warehouse, store and self-service workers, will have a salary adjustment of 4.2%. This same percentage will be applied to workers of the private teaching at the kindergarten and daycare level. However, adjustments for preschool, primary, secondary and higher education workers will be made in February.
Likewise, companies that supply personnel to third parties will also see an increase of 4.2%. The workers of the private banking will receive the same adjustment. On the other hand, the personnel in charge of cleaning services will have a more significant increase of 4.7%. Public bank employees will receive approximately a 5.2% adjustment.
Increases in the hotel sector and service stations
Hotel workers, which include inns, motels and campgrounds, as well as those in bars and restaurants, will enjoy a 5.22% adjustment. This increase is considered a relevant measure for the sector, which has seen significant changes in its dynamics due to the economic situation.
On the other hand, service station employees will also benefit from a 4.2% increase. These salary increases are aligned with the agreements negotiated in the corresponding sectors during the last round of discussions.
Adjustments in construction and public sector
In the sector of constructionthe salary adjustments will be applied in April, since this sector received its correction the previous year. For this occasion, a corrective will be established that will be based on the inflation experienced in the past period compared to the projected inflation, which is currently 5%.
In the area of public sectorthe salary adjustment is expected to be around 5.79%, which is also influenced by the inflation projected for 2025, calculated at 5.2%. The details and specifications of all these salary adjustments will be available for consultation on the official MTSS website.
