Saily González: “What I am going to do in the US is support the people who are in Cuba”

Saily González Velázquez

MIAMI, United States. – Human rights activist Saily González Velázquez, recently exiled in Miamihe assured CubaNet that the United States will continue to support all the people who fight for democracy and the release of political prisoners on the Island.

“What I am going to do here in the United States is to support those people who are there in Cuba,” said the entrepreneur and activist, one of the targets of the regime in the city of Santa Clara.

González assured that on the island, despite being well known, she felt “alone, helpless” and that “nobody cared,” for which she wants “no activist in Cuba to feel that way.”

“If something is clear to me about what I am going to do here, regardless of my personal life and my work, it is to help these people,” he said.

The young activist assured that she was aware of the criticism and attacks generated by her decision to go into exile, but that after arriving in Miami she has received “a lot of solidarity.” “I have felt very supported, very loved,” she said.

On the other hand, he recalled that, during his interrogations with State Security agents, he always made it clear that his dream was to have “a free Cuba, a Cuba with democracy” and not leave the country.

Also, he specified CubaNet that between January and February of this year she was the target of “an escalation of repression” that had the objective of dissuading her from leaving the country.

However, it was not until mid-June that he agreed to go into exile. “This time, in addition to the repression (…), he felt that he could not do anything else. I had warning acts for all the crimes for which they usually accuse dissidents: contempt, instigation to commit a crime, public disorder, defamation… ”, he explained.

During the interview, he also recalled one of his last arrests, on May 31. “That day I received physical violence and it was not the first time. (…) But this time [el arresto] It was particularly violent. In other words, there was an intention to inflict pain on me by State Security agents,” he said.

For the activist, “what marked a complete breaking point” with the regime “was July 11 and what came after July 11.”

For her, another 11J is going to happen on the island because “the regime has no solution” for the problems that afflict Cubans. “There is no food, there is no money, there is nothing. (…) I think there will be [otro 11J] and that [los cubanos] They will overcome fear.”
