MIAMI, United States. — Cuban activist and entrepreneur Saily González Velázquez was detained this Tuesday in the province of Villa Clara while she was walking for freedom for political prisoners on the island.
The young woman was intercepted by a State Security agent in the middle of a public road. The arrest was captured live by Saily herself, who was broadcasting via Facebook Live.
“You know you can’t do that. Give me the phone. You know you can’t do that. What are you doing that for? ”, The agent warned while he violently assaulted the activist.
The individual also took González’s phone and interrupted the live broadcast, while she criticized him for his actions.
“Saily González’s direct ends with this image. A peaceful walk can turn into a physical assault. This week has only been three days and violence has been the norm. Rigged trials, surveillance, harassment and now this”, denounced the independent writer and journalist María Matienzo on social networks.
Protest in favor of political prisoners
The entrepreneur had assured that she would take to the streets to protest the hundreds of political prisoners currently in Cuba and in favor of the artists Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara and Maykel Castillo Pérez (Maykel Osorbo), who were tried yesterday and today in the People’s Municipal Court of Marianao, in Havana. She also demanded the release of the 11J protester Andy García and respect for all activists harassed by the political police.
“This that I am going to do is precisely my act of protest against a terrorist regime,” said the young woman while walking, minutes before being arrested.
Saily González was wearing a white sweater that read Free Maykel Osorbo, Free Luis Manuel.
