Basic coverage for hail and fire, to which additional coverage for replanting and wind is added, are contemplated in a new link agreed between the State Insurance Bank (BSE) and the Rice Growers Association (ACA), as reported to El Observador.
On Friday, October 3, a new collaboration agreement was signed between the insurance bank and the union that brings together rice producers.
This is an agreement designed for the 2025/26 harvest that allows greater support for one of the country’s main export products.
The rice growers’ union reported this week that sowing of the 2025/26 harvest began in the north of the country, projecting an area of almost 170 thousand hectares, with 12% having been installed by the end of September in an agricultural work that usually lasts until mid-November and in which some 500 producers participate. Almost 100% of the rice that Uruguay produces is exported. This national agricultural sector stands out for its yields that are among the highest in the world. In the last campaign, a productive record of 1.7 million tons was reached with a yield of 9,400 kg/ha.
The BSE, with more than a century of experience in agriculture since its first agricultural insurance in 1912, reaffirms with this management its commitment to the rice producer. Through this agreement with ACA, associates will access coverage for the indicated events, with special bonuses.
The signing took place in the Session Room of the BSE Board of Directors, with the presence of the president of the institution, Marcos Otheguy, and the vice president, Cra. Alfonsina Batalla, along with the team from the bank’s Agronomic Department.
On behalf of ACA, its president, Agr. Eng., participated. Guillermo O’Brien, and the manager, Ing. Agr. Cecilia Pattarino.
Otheguy highlighted the importance of developing accessible coverage that minimizes material losses for producers, emphasizing that the agricultural sector is a vital source of wealth for the country.

Likewise, he highlighted the joint work that has resulted in “the most competitive proposal on the market, to protect the efforts of those who sow the future of the country.”
For his part, O’Brien highlighted that this agreement demonstrates the BSE’s continued commitment to producers, always seeking to improve conditions and maintain the quality that characterizes the institution.
