After an intense search, the body of Liz Nayeli Palacios Mena, a young 22-year-old engineer who had graduated as a civil engineer three months ago, was found. Family and friends in Quibdó remember her as a very helpful woman

There is shock and sadness in the Las Margaritas neighborhood of Quibdó, and also in Medellín, due to the death of engineer Liz Nayeli Palacios. The young woman had been missing since September 22, after being swept away by the waters of the Atrato River.

Liz Nayeli, who worked in the municipality of Cértegui, had traveled on September 22 with friends to the sector known as El 17 to enjoy a day of recreation.
However, tragedy occurred when the force of the water dragged the young woman, marking the beginning of a harrowing search.
Relief organizations from Quibdó, El Carmen de Atrato and Lloró, in addition to the indigenous guard and relatives of engineer Nayeli Palacios Mena, searched for her day and night. The area where the incident occurred is difficult to access, so the authorities emergency services had to use drones to obtain some clue to their whereabouts.
Despite the great reinforcement in the search, unfortunately, on the afternoon of September 24, the lifeless body of Liz Nayeli Palacios was found, near the mouth of the El 90 stream in the Atrato River.
This Wednesday, September 25, the Institute of Legal Medicine in Quibdó performed an autopsy on the young woman’s body in the San José cemetery, as part of the investigative process to clarify the causes of her death.
