The first dancer of the National Ballet of Cuba, Sadaise Arencibia, will say goodbye to the stage on April 23, during a gala dedicated to the Spanish dance that will be held in the Avellaneda Sala of the National Theater of Cuba. The presentation will take place within the frame Ballerina Assoluta cousin Alicia Alonso and currently chaired by Viengsay Valdés.
The work chosen for this farewell is Blood weddingsa ballet created by Antonio Gades from the homonymous text of Federico García Lorca, and that is part of the repertoire of the National Ballet of Cuba. On this occasion, the leading roles will be in charge of the first Spanish dancer Joaquín de Luz, in the role of Leonardo, and of the first Cuban dancers Viengsay Valdés (the bride) and Sadaise Arencibia (the woman). In the roles of the boyfriend and the mother they will act, respectively, Daniel Martínez – guest maid of the Spanish ballet of Cuba – and Clotilde Pereon.
In this way, Arencibia will end an artistic career of 25 years, closely linked to the National Ballet of Cuba. This was the company that debuted on July 17, 1999, integrating the cast of RARE AvChoreography of Alberto Méndez.
When announcing its retirement in social networks, the National Ballet of Cuba stressed that “a large part of the public does not associate Sadaise Ancibia with Spanish profile characters, because its maximum expression has achieved it in roles of the classic and romantic repertoire, as Giselle, Odette and Auroraamong others. It is necessary to recognize its unforgettable interpretations of Kitri and Carmentwo Spanish inspiration characters par excellence. ”

About the character he will interpret in his last function, The woman in Blood weddingsArencibia had already embodied him during the jubilee for the 75 years of the National Ballet of Cuba, held in October 2023.

The interpreter has been widely praised for her delicacy and elegance in papers such as the white swan of The Swan Lake. In an interview granted in 2008 the journalist José Luis Estrada Betancourt for Rebel youthhe highlighted such qualities and quoted British critic Clement Crisp, who spoke of “the delicate grace of Sadaise Arencibia.”
Before, in 2006, during the 20th International Ballet Festival of Havana, he debuted in the character of Giselle next to the iconic Cuban dancer José Manuel Carreño. In 2009 it was promoted to the rank of first dancer of the National Ballet of Cuba, a position that has sustained with delivery.
This April 23 will receive his last great ovation as an active dancer on the scene.
