He Sabancaya volcanolocated in the Arequipa region, entered into orange alert level after last Sunday, September 13, a fumarola was registered that exceeded the 5,000 meters highaccompanied by dispersion of ashes and the occurrence of pyroclastic flows, the Peru Geophysical Institute (PGI)organism assigned to the Ministry of Environment (Minam).
The coordinator of National Vulcanological Center (Cenvul) of the PPE, Katherine Vargas, said that due to this situation an ash dispersion alert that reaches the districts of Huambo, Huanca and various nearby populated centers.
The PPE explained that the orange alert means that the massif presents a significant increase in its eruptive activitywith greater seismic activity, frequent explosions and emission of ashes.
Also, from CENVUL, based in Arequipa, permanent monitoring is maintained 24 hours a day to provide updated information about the evolution of the volcano.
Sabancaya is considered the Second most active volcano in Peru. Is located in the province of Caylloma70 kilometers northwest of the city of Arequipa, already throughout its history has presented recurring gas emissions, ash and explosions with expulsion of rock fragments.
