President Gustavo Petro told prosecutor Tarek William Saab that his government is responsible for one million Venezuelans who live in Colombian territory and the Maduro government for his compatriots in Venezuela.
The Attorney General, Tarek William Saab, responded to the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, who gave his opinion on the social network
“You celebrate the release of a person, as an exceptional event, apparently due to ignorance of the Venezuelan reality,” says the extensive statement, published by the prosecutor, taking exclusive powers of the Executive branch, which is in charge of international relations.
“Dear President Petro: Take care of the serious problems of Colombia that we solve, those of Venezuela“, reads the title of the statement.

Given Saab’s exhortation to deal with the “serious problems” of Colombia, among them, drug trafficking and paramilitaries, which in his opinion operate from Colombian territory. Petro responded, with a tiny message: «“Let us deal with the great problems of humanity, of our region and of our people.”
In his response, Petro assured that he is responsible for the Venezuelans in Colombia and the government of Nicolás Maduro for the Colombians in Venezuela. «Here I am responsible for the life and dignity of a million Venezuelans and you, there, are also responsible for the life and dignity of millions of Colombians. The Venezuelans here are Venezuela and the Colombians there are Colombia, and Bolívar is your business and ours,” Petro wrote. It should be noted that it was recently learned that at least 12 Colombians are among the more than a thousand political prisoners in the country.
In the text, prosecutor Saab also reproaches the Petro government’s lack of attention to the alleged mercenaries who, according to him, trained on Colombian soil to “bath blood” in Venezuela, and to date “there is not a single person prosecuted for those facts,” he added.
He recalled that Petro has remained silent in the face of the statements of former presidents Álvaro Uribe and Iván Duque, who, according to Saab, have “threatened” Venezuela again with foreign military intervention.
Likewise, he referred to the arrests of alleged mercenaries that the government of Nicolás Maduro has made on the border during the weeks prior to the inauguration. “Do the security agencies of your country not know who enters and who leaves their geography?” he points out in the text.
Adds Saab: “For the sake of peace on the continent, you should verify that Colombian security agencies fulfill their duties and protect the border we share.”
He also questions the position that Petro and his government have set in the face of the political crisis in Venezuela. He has said that the July 28 elections were not democratic and has asked for their repetition. For this reason, Saab compares Petro’s speech with that of right-wing leaders who have demonstrated against Maduro’s inauguration.
“Do you think that by attacking Venezuela you are going to save yourself from the executioners who threaten our popular democracies? Don’t you think his speech is too similar to that of these characters who turned vast regions of Colombia into a mass grave? What do you gain by looking like those serial killers? The peace of the continent needs a different approach from you, in your capacity as Head of Government,” reads the text released by the prosecutor and drafter of the new Constitution.
