Tarek William Saab warned that there was an increase in more than 90% in deaths due to road accidents and decreased qualified homicide
The attorney general, Tarek William Saabannounced on Monday, February 3, the launch of a campaign for road awareness called “leads for life”; which provides that traffic accidents be minimized throughout the country.
SAAB indicated that, in addition to raising awareness in the population, it will also seek to establish legal consequences for all drivers who disrespect the traffic laws when driving a vehicle through the program that have been preparing for months “in order for them to have a “positive impact” and decrease deaths in these accidents.
He warned that, although the homicide qualified has decreased as the main cause of death in the country, the one generated by road accidents increased by more than 90%; which according to the Prosecutor’s Office are generated by different factors such as recklessness in managing, breach of norms and the evasion of responsibilities.
He emphasized that motorcycles have acquired prominence for the imprudence of their drivers by eating the light, the sense of the streets or handling by sites where they do not correspond to them; Therefore, he stressed that these accidents are more dangerous because those that move in these vehicles are more vulnerable.

In that sense, Tarek William Saab emphasized that the problem with massive actions throughout the country should be prevented, in accordance with the authorities at all levels.
He said that between 2020 and 2024 a significant increase in guilty homicides associated with traffic was evidenced, that is, accidents with deceased. He indicated that 980 cases were passed in 2020 to 1924 in 2024. He pointed out that of that figure, 37% is shocks; 27% rods, among other percentages.
He asked that the roads be signaled throughout the country and there is a permanent presence of security officials in the places where there is greater influx of people, as well as advocated because sanctioning measures are applied if they violate the legislation. The campaign is launched together with security agencies such as the Bolivarian National Police, INTT and Civil Protection.
He commented that for this launch there are 24 higher prosecutors and 22 specialized in 40 points of attention throughout the country; 300 Public Ministry officials; 240 PC; 300 traffic police; 124 of the INT; 70 National Guard; regional and municipal police; Ministry of Transportation, Angels of the Highway, 480 officials of the Ministry of Salu.
