Saab: Astra hacker intended to black out information on June 28

Prosecutor: Freddy Superlano is providing valuable information

The Attorney General, Tarek William Saab, reported that the hacker who operates under the pseudonym ASTRAleader of the Cyber Hunters group, took responsibility for the attack carried out on June 28 against the CNE and the objective was to cause a computer blackout as demonstrated by the attack on the pages of the State institutions.

During a meeting with the diplomatic corps accredited to the country on Wednesday, he reported that the cyber attack was against 25 national domains of different state institutions, including the Patria System.

“This hacker publicly claimed responsibility for hacking the CNE system during the elections in Venezuela and operated under the pseudonym Astra, one of the most renowned in cybersecurity and computer crimes,” said Saab.

Saab said that this hacker revealed the existence of a cyber plan against the Venezuelan electoral system and admitted that his team manipulated a “ghost machine” of the CNE, from where they managed to saturate the connection ports and seriously affect the system, which delayed the publication of the electoral results of July 28.

This is playing dirty, (…) Trying to overthrow the electoral system to cause deaths and injuries, claiming fraud, starting a civil war by that means overthrowing the government of some of the countries that are here,” he emphasized before the ambassadors, asking them if they would accept such a situation in their respective countries.

“Obviously there was a response to this attack that was received, which slowed down the electronic system and data accounting, however we managed to prevent the consummation of this attack and the reading of some results was carried out at midnight on July 28,” Saab emphasized.

Prosecutor Saab also said that the aim of the plan by the perpetrators of these acts was to foment a civil war. “The intention was that we would still be counting the dead,” he added.

Saab invited the ambassadors to review the evidence and assured that the page where the opposition uploaded its electoral records, “was purchased through the Amazon platform. “Note that they are all blurred, scanned, almost all the tables have the same number, 60 and 40, and the signatures are almost all identical,” the prosecutor stressed.

He also urged the ambassadors to take note of what was reported “and not what an influencer says in a drunken state, saying that he has a record and when asked, did you vote? they say no, it is a complete mockery,” he stressed, while referring to the fact that more than 80 percent of the people arrested said they had not voted.
