As a flagrant violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and International Law, the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) classified the arrest of Alex Saab by authorities of the United States and Cape Verde, at the time he was Special Envoy for Humanitarian Affairs, according to a press release from the TSJ.
This ruling by the country’s highest court coincides with the release demands made by other Venezuelan institutions and authorities.
The decision declared the amparo action filed by Camilla Fabri, wife of Venezuelan citizen Alex Saab Morán, against his illegal detention admissible.
Consequently, the TSJ urged the National Executive, through the Ministry for Foreign Relations, to continue the actions to demand that the United States authorities proceed to the immediate observance and application of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
The TSJ sentence focuses on guaranteeing the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the sources of international law, the national legal order, the diplomatic performance of the Republic, international relations and peace. “Law and justice are elementary presuppositions for peace, even peace and international well-being,” the TSJ note pointed out.
