the plots of corruption investigated and convicted so far by the Public Ministry (MP), which for now are 31 in total, associated with the cases of PDVSA Cripto, Corporación Venezolana de Guayana (CVG) and Cartones de Venezuela (Cartoven) are synchronized and linked to each other and they have no color, highlighted the Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab.
During a television interview, Saab stressed that “there are 31 corruption plots investigated in the oil industry”, and they should not be seen in isolation because “there is no corruption that has color, this plot has to do with those of the year 2017, 2018 and 2019”.
These actions cover public bodies, individuals and businessmen, said the Prosecutor, while stressing that it is “a concert of negative interests that damage the daily life of a nation. Fighting against corruption is raising the banner of ethics, ”he stressed.
In this sense, he commented that “it has been an arduous fight, battle and work, and it must be seen from a global context. It is the duty of the State to fight against corruption because it is to defend the truth, ethics, morals, the lives of vulnerable sectors”.
He recalled that “by adding the corruption schemes there are 61 detainees, which implies a relentless fight by the Venezuelan State”, in which the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, and the security organizations and different authorities “have carried out a good port a punishment” before this scourge.
Numbers: they are important
For the attorney general, Tarek William Saab, it is important to highlight the figures obtained from this fight against corruption, “and I always say that fortunately we stopped this plan and it was revealed, there are sanctions and prisoners and some to be arrested. This continues and is heading towards an unimaginable nightmare.”
He stressed that it is “a highly explosive plot that was revealed on time and prosecuted, the country will see the punishment, the accusations. You’re already seeing it.”
Saab believes that the people must understand that the national government has launched a battle to recover the ethics and morals of society.
“This is disgusting and the desire to do justice, at the same time, and the willingness to sanction should be highlighted and that the sanctions mean that the Venezuelan economy recovers,” added Saab.
Punishment for officials
Tarek William Saab stressed that the sanctions and actions that the Venezuelan State and Government have undertaken in this fight against corruption “should serve as a lesson to those who hold a position and want to damage the reputation of the country and of themselves. They have no sense of homeland, they don’t love themselves or their family.”
He noted that the corrupt “act like psychopaths who break social rules, however, the Prosecutor considers that” not everything is 100% bad nor is everything 100% good, from this there is a positive lesson since a punishment has been given, and He has done justice.”
Human rights violations drop to 40%
On the other hand, when speaking of Human Rights, Saab emphasized that the rate of human rights violations has dropped 40%, thanks to the objective and impartial struggle of the Public Ministry.
“From 2017 to date, the rates of human rights violations have dropped to 40%, because the MP’s sanction and search for justice against human rights violators has been a timely, objective and impartial fight and we have achieved convictions in cases iconic,” he added.
Human Rights Laws
Regarding the work of the Public Ministry to contribute to the defense of human rights, the Attorney General pointed out that laws have been presented to the National Assembly (AN) based on the defense of the rights of the most vulnerable.
In this sense, he said that norms have been presented that incorporate third and fourth generation Human Rights, with the principle of progressivity, in protection of children and adolescents, “we have presented laws to improve the ones we have.”
He noted that the possibility that an adolescent between 14 and 16 years of age who commits a serious crime could be prosecuted more severely is being evaluated.
“We have seen terrible cases where at that age they have committed serious crimes. It is important to see to what extent the sentences should be a maximum of 30 years, the debate is to extend the sentences, 40, 50 years, ”he said.
Regarding the mistreatment of women, he said that the MP has carried out 55,119 actions during the year 2022, with 11,622 charges and 14,467 charges were filed, he specified.
“These are debates that society should give and that should be focused on prevention,” he added.
