This year around S/19,600 million would not be executed public worksas estimated by the Peruvian Chamber of Construction (Capeco).
According to the union, the State does not increase its efficiency in execution despite having a record amount in the budget of S/71.3 billion. Furthermore, he specified that the municipalities are the ones that have executed the least, with 59.1%.
Likewise, he reported that as of September of this year, 2,215 paralyzed works were registered. According to him, local governments are those that show the largest number of projects that are not executed with 1,576 initiatives. Meanwhile, the national government has 333 projects that have not been executed, while the regional government has 306.
SECTOR GROWTH
On the other hand, Capeco estimated that construction would have grown 12.5% in November, the highest monthly since 2024. With this result, it is estimated that the year will close with an advance of 6%, thus consolidating its best performance since 2021.
He explained that the rebound in the sector is mainly supported by the growth of private investment, estimated at 9.5%, driven by the dynamism of mining investment, the housing market and the execution of projects under the modality of works for taxes.
In contrast, public investment would have slowed down in the last quarter and is projected to close the year with a growth of 5.5%.
