the congresswoman Ruth Luque (Democratic Change) rejected the expressions of the former president of Parliament, Maria del Carmen Alva (Popular Action), who said that the Saharawi Republic “there are 40 tents”.
Through her social networks, the parliamentarian described Alva Prieto’s statement as a “nonsense and ignorance and clarified that the reestablishment of diplomatic relations with this nation is in accordance with the UN charter.
“Reducing the Republic of Saharawi to 40 tents is nonsense and ignorance. The Saharawi Arab Republic is recognized in many countries. The reestablishment of diplomatic relations is inspired by the principles of the Charter of the United Nations Organization”, Luque wrote on his Twitter account.
For her part, the legislator Sigrid Bazan highlighted the acknowledgment made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cesar Landato the Republic of Saharawi.
“We highlight Foreign Minister Landa’s statements at the Foreign Relations Committee on Peru’s recognition of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic. We reaffirm our solidarity with this State, which continues to fight for its sovereignty and independence”, He expressed on the same social network.
Alva’s statements
During the session of the Committee on Foreign Relations this Monday, in which Foreign Minister Landa was presented, Maria del Carmen Alwa He said that the aforementioned country was only made up of “40 tents” that occupied the territory of Algeria, so it was not justified for Peru to establish relations with that country.
“The Foreign Ministry is not painted, the Foreign Ministry is the one that gives the guidelines, because the president does not know international law and we all know that the Saharawi Republic is 40 tents in a territory of Algeria and that it is not recognized by the United Nations, and that of the 24 Arab countries it is only recognized by one, nobody recognizes it”, he stated.
“What is the reason why Peru recognizes the 40 tents in a territory? Because we know of people who have been there and have seen the 40 tentsÁlva added.
