Donetsk Region Governor Pavlo Kyrylenko confirmed on Wednesday that two civilians were killed and 11 wounded on Tuesday night following Russian strikes in the region.
According to the governor, Russian shelling hit a kindergarten and residential buildings in Bakhmut after several days of attacks in the region.
Photos shared on the internet showed kindergarten and residential buildings with huge clouds of dust and smoke billowing out of them on Wednesday morning in Ukraine.
A video has also been released showing a Ukrainian soldier outside the kindergarten building shortly after the attack.
The footage shows the building engulfed in flames with huge clouds of smoke and dust surrounding the building.
Online geolocation experts located the building at 48.577048, 37.965881, which is located in the southwestern part of the city of Bakhmut, on the eastern side of the T0504 road.
ZAPORIZHZHIA HIT BY ATTACKS OVERNIGHT
Video footage also surfaced on Wednesday showing damage caused by Russian attacks in Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
A clip posted by Zaporizhzhia Governor Oleksandr Starukj and shared by The Kyiv Independent on Twitter shows a large crater in the ground with a fire in the center. The fire appears to be caused by a burst gas pipe.
“The governor of Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Oleksandr Starukh, reported that Russian forces fired a missile at one of the settlements in the region. A gas distribution point was hit and a fire broke out,” writes The Kyiv Independent on Twitter.
Starukh has confirmed that the fire was put out and that the attacks caused no casualties, despite being directed at a residential area.
UKRAINE IS FORCED INTO “TRENCH WAR” IN BAKHMUT
As Russia continues to bombard Ukraine with massive missile campaigns and drone strikes, Bakhmut soldiers have resorted to trench warfare as Russian troops attempt to seize control of the city.
Bakhmut, a key and strategic territory in the Donbas region, remains a target for the Russians after a series of major setbacks in the disputed region of Ukraine.
Photographs shared online support claims by the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Monday that Russia is continuing to launch attacks on the city, whose front lines have hardly moved in recent months.
The photos show Ukrainian soldiers in hastily dug trenches – without support boards or soil – launching a reconnaissance drone.
Russian troops also seem to have dug the same trenches in the city. Ukraine’s Air Assault command revealed this week that the 71st Separate Fighter Brigade had been deployed to the outskirts of the city to help soldiers repel Russian assaults.
