The governor of the Russian region of Kursk, Roman Starovoit, reported today that all security services in that territory are on high alert after the attack by Ukrainian forces on Belgorod.
The executive explained on his Telegram channel that the governor stated that he contacted his counterpart from the neighboring Russian region, Viacheslav Gladkov, after the air raid by two Ukrainian helicopters against oil deposits in Belgorod this morning.
Starovoit explained that the Kursk administration, also close to the Ukrainian border, offered aid and fuel to that territory.
As Gladkov also explained through Telegram, the helicopters entered Russian territory flying at low altitude and the incident caused no casualties. He pointed out that the fire affected fuel tanks and has a high level of complexity.
The mayor of the city of Belgorod, Anton Ivanov, assured that the residents of the houses of three streets near the deposit were evacuated.
“Currently, eight tanks with fuel are under fire, all of them have a volume of two thousand cubic meters. There is a threat of further spread of the fire,” the Russian Emergencies Ministry said.
Russia began a military operation in Ukraine on February 24, after the authorities of the self-proclaimed people’s republics of Donetsk (DPR) and Lugansk (PRL) requested help to repel the increase in aggression from kyiv and the intense bombing.
Previously, Moscow recognized the independence and sovereignty of both territories and signed treaties of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance with their leaders, which included the establishment of diplomatic relations and military aid.
In his speech to inform about the start of the operation, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the objective is to protect the population of Donbass from the abuses and genocide of kyiv during the last eight years, in addition to “demilitarizing and denazifying ” Ukraine.
