Russia recognized on Monday the advance of the Ukrainian Army in the Kherson region, in the south of the country, where the forces of Kyiv managed to break some defensive lines and they forced the invaders to fall back to new defensive positions. Let us remember that Kherson is one of the Ukrainian regions that Russia annexed to its territory, after pseudo-referendums that are not internationally recognized.
“The enemy managed to penetrate our defense in the direction of Zolota Balka and Oleksandrivka with numerically superior tank units,” Russian defense spokesman Igor Konashenkov told the morning military report. According to the Russian command, “Russian troops occupied a defense line previously prepared and they continue to attack the enemy en masse.”
Both towns are located about 130 kilometers northeast of the city of Jersón. Russian forces claim that, in the fighting, they caused heavy casualties to the Ukrainians. Previously, the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyhad informed the people that the troops had liberated Arkhanhelske and Myrolyubivka in that region, about 20 kilometers west of Zolota Balka.
“Consult” the population
On the eastern front, meanwhile, the “pro-Russian” recognized that their forces are massively attacked by the Ukrainian Army. “After we had to leave Liman, our military entrenched itself on the outskirts of Kreminna and the situation is quite hot there “, said the military spokesman of the self-proclaimed “People’s Republic of Luhansk”, Andrei Marochko.
“The enemy does not stop trying to break through our defenses, but our heroes are coping with these attempts at the moment,” said Marochko, who later told the Interfax agency that the Ukrainians had already crossed the Luhansk administrative border, heading from Lisichansk, but for now suffering “logistical problems due to constant artillery fire from the Russian Aerospace Forces”.
While, Moscow announced that it will “consult” the population to establish the borders of the illegally annexed regions of Kherson and Zaporizhia, in the south of Ukraine. “We will continue to consult the population of these regions,” Peskov said when asked if Russia was annexing all or just parts of the territory it occupies in those areas.
