Russia says that the US will not be able to repeat the Venezuelan scenario in Cuba

Russia says that the US will not be able to repeat the Venezuelan scenario in Cuba

The United States will not be able to repeat in Cuba the scenario of Venezuela, where it launched a military attack and kidnapped President Nicolás Maduro, declared Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasili Nebenzia.

In an interview with Russian media, the senior diplomat indicated that, in the past, when Washington intervened in the affairs of its “backyard”, it at least justified it with “democratizing slogans”, but now they do not even try to hide their true motives, which are to gain resources and influence.

Responding to the question of who could be next, taking into account US President Donald Trump’s threats towards Cuba, Mexico and Colombia, the diplomat was sure that Washington will not be able to repeat the same operation in the Caribbean country.

«In Cuba, that wouldn’t work. I think that, despite the rhetoric that Americans have been using lately regarding Cuba, it is just rhetoric for now. Because in Cuba it will not be easy if they want to repeat something similar to what happened in Venezuela,” he stated.

In parallel, Nebenzia pointed out that the Trump Administration’s policy is now governed by the motto “if you are not with us, you are against us, (…) wherever you live, if you do not follow Washington’s instructions, especially if you do not have the capacity or the right to an independent foreign policy, you are in danger”, as demonstrated, in his opinion, by the example of Europe.

After the US military aggression against Venezuela, the Trump Administration has increased its threats against Havana, ensuring that “entering and destroying” may be the remaining option to force change.

The president’s threats take place in the midst of the economic and commercial blockade that the United States has maintained on Cuba for more than six decades, and that this Thursday announced that it would intensify by imposing tariffs on countries that sell or supply oil to the island.
