Russia reaffirms strategic support for Venezuela in the face of external threats

Russia expressed this Thursday its willingness to respond to Venezuela’s requests in the face of existing and potential threats, within the framework of the strategic partnership agreement between both countries.

The spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, María Zajárova, stated that Moscow and Caracas maintain permanent contact and will continue to work “side by side” to guarantee regional stability.

The statements come amid tensions with the United States, which has deployed ships and planes off the Venezuelan coast.

During a press conference, Zajárova noted:

“We are prepared to continue to respond appropriately to your requests, considering existing and potential threats.”

The spokesperson stressed that both countries look to the future “with serenity and confidence,” and that they have overcome previous difficulties, which strengthens their strategic cooperation.

Reaction from the Kremlin

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitri Peskov reiterated that any action regarding Venezuela must respect international law:

Venezuela is a sovereign state and, in any case, we start from the basis that everything that happens around Venezuela must be done in accordance with the spirit and letter of international law.”

Regional context and complaints of aggression

President Nicolás Maduro has denounced a “multiform war” orchestrated from the United States, which includes armed aggression, disinformation campaigns and covert operations.

In September, the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (Fanb) began military exercises in coastal areas to strengthen defense against external threats.

Maduro also accused Washington of leading an offensive to impose a “puppet government” and seize Venezuela’s natural resources, including oil, gas and gold.
