Russia ratifies support for Venezuela and asks the US to reorient its anti-drug fight

Given the growing tension generated by the United States with the military deployment in the Caribbean, Russia reiterated this Friday its support for Venezuela and urged the US Government to reorient the anti-drug fight more towards the interior of its country.

The spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, María Zajárova, said that they are closely monitoring the situation “in the southern part of the Caribbean”, where the situation “continues to become more complicated” and raises growing concern on the part of the States of the region declared a zone of peace in 2014.

The official recalled that Russia “traditionally defends the stable development of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the resolution of all differences by peaceful and civilized means” and expressed on behalf of Moscow its “firm support for the Government of Venezuela in the defense of national sovereignty.”

«In the context of the current situation, we maintain close and constant contact with our Venezuelan friends. “Russia expresses its unwavering solidarity with Venezuela and is ready to respond appropriately to Caracas’ requests, taking into account both current and potential challenges,” Zajárova assured.

Along these lines, he urged the countries involved to “refrain from escalation” and “promote the search for solutions to existing problems in a constructive manner, respecting the norms of international law.”

«It is not only experts who now remember the Monroe Doctrine. It turns out that it was not renounced, if we look at what has happened in recent years in this area,” said the spokesperson in a press conference, referring to the policy of exclusive US influence in the Americas enacted two centuries ago.

Moscow asked Washington to evaluate its anti-drug fight

Focusing on the anti-narcotics fight that Washington uses as a pretext for its military increase in the southern Caribbean, the Russian spokesperson said that “perhaps it is worth it for the United States to go looking for the criminals within the American elites,” now that she has remembered the evil of drugs.

“Who, within their country, has lobbied over the last few decades for the legalization of drugs and the distribution of narcotics and who has mentally, philosophically, theoretically and practically accustomed American society to a new normal, which includes an attitude towards drugs as a kind of salvation from adversity and depression and as a means of entertainment and almost pastime?” he indicated.

In this context, he recalled the influential people who defended substitution therapy in various international forums, when “an attempt is made not to treat people for their drug addiction, but, on the contrary, to put it under control without subjecting it to criticism or due regulation in the form of prohibitions.”

“It seems to me that we should start there, or at least worry about it first,” the spokesperson stressed.

He noted that every time Russia warned about these approaches on international platforms, “for some reason it was precisely the representatives of the Western community, the United States, who criticized it.”

Finally, Zajárova suggested asking those responsible people, who continue to occupy important positions within the United States, “why are there so many people on the streets of various cities who openly consume drugs and literally die from them on those streets?”

On Thursday, during his speech before the UN Security Council, the deputy permanent representative of Russia, Dmitri Polianski, warned of a “dangerous climbing” US military near Venezuela.

Since the end of August, the United States has maintained a deployment of warships, a submarine, fighter planes and troops off the coast of Venezuela, with the claim of fighting drug trafficking. Since then, these forces have carried out a series of bombings against boats that allegedly transport drugs through the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, resulting in dozens of deaths.

The last attack reported by the US Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, took place this Thursday and would have claimed the lives of three people.
