Russia ratifies agreement with Venezuela in space sector

The Lower House of the Russian Parliament ratified this Wednesday, in its plenary meeting, the agreement on cooperation with Venezuela in the space sector, agencies report.

“The joint space activity envisaged by the agreement will also be developed on a commercial basis, which will help attract extrabudgetary investment to the national space rocket industry,” says the document approved by Parliament, quoted by Sputnik.

The agreement between the Government of Russia and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on cooperation in the exploration and use of space for peaceful purposes was signed in Caracas on March 30, 2021.

This agreement – details the Russian agency – contemplates the execution of joint projects related, in particular, to the installation of Glonass stations (Russian satellite navigation system) in Venezuelan territory, provision of launch services and joint creation of space equipment.

The specific financial conditions and obligations related to the cooperation programs and projects will be determined in separate agreements (contracts) signed by the participants in the joint activity.

It should be remembered that, last April, Russia approved a bill on cooperation with Venezuela in the use and exploration of space for peaceful purposes.

The project was conceived as part of the bilateral agreements to expand cooperation between Moscow and Caracas in the field of space activities.
