The Russian government announced this week that it has developed a cancer vaccine. The vaccine is expected to begin being distributed to patients free of charge from the beginning of 2025.
According to the Russian news agency, the vaccine was developed in collaboration with several research centers. Preclinical trials demonstrated that the dose suppresses the development of tumors and potential metastases.
The National Medical Research Center of the Russian Ministry of Health reported that it works with two lines of oncology vaccines. One of them is a personalized vaccine that uses mRNA technology, the same used in doses against Covid-19.
“Based on the genetic analysis of each patient’s tumor, a unique vaccine is created to ‘teach’ the immune system to recognize cancer cells,” detailed the Russian research center.
The second immunizer is Enteromix, formulated based on a combination of four non-pathogenic viruses that have the ability to destroy malignant cells and, simultaneously, activate patients’ immunity against a tumor.
