Russia advances in Donbas and controls almost the entire Lugansk region

The pro-Russian separatists announced shortly before the seizure of the Azot chemical plant in Severodonetsk and the evacuation of 800 civilians who had taken refuge there

The mayor of Severodonetsk, Oleksandre Striuk, reported that this Saturday, June 25, the Ukrainian city was completely occupied by the Russian army.

This comes after Ukrainian forces were ordered to withdraw from Severodonetsk on Friday, June 24. He warned that the fighting is intensifying in that region and that no city is safe for the inhabitants. He also detailed that in some towns the supply lines could be cut at any moment and that volunteers are working around the clock to evacuate residents who have not yet left.

DW reported that the governor of the Lugansk region, of which Severodonetsk is a part, stated that “90% of the city is damaged and 80% of the houses will have to be demolished.”

The pro-Russian separatists announced shortly before the seizure of the Azot chemical plant in Severodonetsk and the evacuation of 800 civilians who had taken refuge there.

They also reported that their forces and those of the Russian army had entered Lysychanskwhere “street fighting” was taking place.

The fall of Severodonetsk and the eventual capture of Lysychansk will allow the Kremlin to claim that it has occupied the entire Lugansk region and thus fulfilled part of its declared objective of “liberating” all of Donbas, also made up of Donetsk.
