Rural schools have better educational results after leveling

In September 2021, the Ministry of Education launched the Learn in Time Plan that seeks the continuous leveling of students, after two years of confinement, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Total, 2008 institutions from all over the country have participated in the leveling processes and 950 have agreed to be tested.

Daniel Crespo, Undersecretary of Specialized and Inclusive Education, points out that the criterion is “to focus on those who need it most and systematically improve from the bottom up.”

Crespo adds that the first results of the evaluations are encouraging and highlights that students from rural areas obtained better results than those from urban areas.

For example, the best rated province – in the evolutions – was Carchi with an average of 9.17. While Pichincha reached a 7.35 which is the score lower on a national scale.

“Precisely because (in rural areas) they entered face-to-face classes earlier and that is very important. This is a plan that works in face-to-face sessions”, highlights Crespo.

While in the provinces with greater facilities for virtuality “less emphasis has been placed on returning to the classroom.”

Preliminary results of second, third and fourth of basic

The results of this evaluation are preliminary since there has not been a previous evaluation with the same tool as the Learning in Time Plan. To compare the progress of the continuous leveling, it will be necessary to wait for the results of the following evaluations that will be carried out in March and May 2022.
