An influencing factor is that in rural areas they returned to attendance sooner. While provinces like Pichincha have low results.
In September 2021, the Ministry of Education launched the Learn in Time Plan that seeks the continuous leveling of students, after two years of confinement, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Total, 2008 institutions from all over the country have participated in the leveling processes and 950 have agreed to be tested.
not everyone participated
Daniel Crespo, Undersecretary of Specialized and Inclusive Education, points out that the criterion is “to focus on those who need it most and systematically improve from the bottom up.”
The objective of this project is to reduce the educational gap caused by confinement, which according to studies by Unicef or the world bank It could range from two to eleven years.
Attendance is the basis of leveling
Crespo adds that the first results of the evaluations are encouraging and highlights that students from rural areas obtained better results than those from urban areas.
For example, the best rated province – in the evolutions – was Carchi with an average of 9.17. While Pichincha reached a 7.35 which is the score lower on a national scale.
“Precisely because (in rural areas) they entered face-to-face classes earlier and that is very important. This is a plan that works in face-to-face sessions”, highlights Crespo.
While in the provinces with greater facilities for virtuality “less emphasis has been placed on returning to the classroom.”
