Ruling on the anti-bullfighting law is again on pause in CDMX

“They want to save time”

In the session of the Animal Welfare Commission on June 13, where the opinion would be discussed again, the morenista deputy Christian Moctezuma requested the withdrawal of the law that prohibits bullfighting, since -in his opinion- it lacks legality and the The issue has not “matured” among all the parliamentary fractions.

“It is about giving legal certainty on this issue and that it is not challenged judicially, therefore there must be greater clarity in the parliamentary procedure of this opinion and consequently, that requires more work, discussion and analysis,” explained the deputy during the session.

PAN and PRD deputies described as a “lack of respect” that deputy Christian Moctezuma and the other members of Morena speak out for the withdrawal of the opinion when they have multiple absences or show – from their perspective – little interest in the subject.

“It seems to me that they are only buying time to see if they can pressure the Judiciary through a certain minister of the Court,” said PAN deputy Federico Döring.

Regarding the survey proposed by the head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, to decide whether or not bullfighting should be banned in the capital, the director of Animanaturalis described this exercise as a distraction or a factor to postpone its discussion in the Congress of Mexico City.

He stressed that rights established in the Constitution cannot be put to a vote and questioned the method by which he intends to carry out this exercise.

“How is the survey going to be carried out if 15 days ago the congress practically dismantled and cut resources to the electoral body in charge of carrying out citizen consultations? These are mere distractions to buy time and play the game of bullfighting,” said Berlanga .

It will be in the next few days when the animal welfare commission meets again
