The setback measures in environmental preservation, announced by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, during his inauguration speechconcern humanity as a whole, but there is hope that they will not be accompanied by the policies of the governors of that country. The expectation was expressed by the Chief Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, this Wednesday (22), during the program Bom Dia, Minister, on Brazilian Communication Company (EBC).
“Humanity calls for care for nature. At the same time that the vast majority of humanity wants and desires care for the planet and the environment, people have been elected in some places who say that this is not a priority, and that it should be [algo] secondary,” said Rui Costa during the program.
The minister regretted the fact that the US president had announced the US withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, a pact in which all signatory countries assume responsibilities to reduce pollution emissions on the planet.
“This obviously worries, but not just the Brazilian government. It worries all of humanity. There is no point in just one country reducing emissions, because the planet will continue to be contaminated. Everyone needs to join forces to decontaminate the planet”, defended the minister.
Rui Costa, however, said he hopes that this policy will not be corroborated by governors of some North American states that, historically, show concern about environmental issues.
“Probably [a opinião do Trump] is not the opinion of the majority of the American people. Especially because many US governors have very structured environmental protection policies. These are very strong policies. These states have not changed their policies”, he added, remembering that, in the USA, states have a lot of autonomy and institutional legal strength.
“They are much more autonomous than the Brazilian model,” said the minister.
