For ruben vargas former Minister of the Interior of the government of Dina Boluarte should concentrate all efforts in the fight against narcoterrorism in the VRAEM.
Who are responsible for the ambush of the Police in Vraem?
I am tired of seeing politicians beat themselves in the chest and say familiar phrases because that will not calm the pain of the families, parents, brothers and children of the fallen police officers. The best tribute we could give is to review what we are doing wrong, because we have tried to confront terrorism and drug trafficking for 50 years, but we are much worse off. It is time to review the strategy in the Vraem.

What is the reason, for you, of this ambush?
The narco-terrorist ambush is not a logic of the Shining Path of the 80s or Movadef. What we now have in the Vraem is, in effect, a terrorist group that was born from the remnants of Sendero Luminoso in the Vraem, but which has now followed a different logic both in ideological and political terms. It is a group that has taken its own nature as what is now called the Communist Militarized Party of Peru, which is very functional to the illicit business of drug trafficking and illegal cocaine. The ambush has to do with the opportunity given to this terrorist group to follow the same routine in Vraem, which facilitated the ambush of the seven policemen. I think the issue goes there.
What would that change of strategy be?
The main problem is drug trafficking. President Boluarte has said that she has made the political decision to face this problem, but, in order to face it, control of internal order must be under the control of the specialized Anti-drug and Organized Crime police. When we talk about cocaine we talk about organized crime. We have to reverse the strategy and directly attack drug trafficking.
