Rubén Maldonado says construction sector “will collapse” with mass deportation of Haitians

Rubén Maldonado dice sector construcción «colapsará» con deportación masiva de haitianos

By Lency Alcántara

Former congressman Rubén Maldonado described the deportation of more than 10,000 Haitians announced by the Government as a “spectacle” and said that the action is impossible to execute.

“This is nothing more than a media show by the Government, they discovered today that there are many Haitians in the Dominican Republic, we are going to remove them all and we are going to get 10 thousand weekly, the first thing is that that is impossible” stated the senior leader of the Fuerza del Pueblo in the program El Día that is broadcast on Telesistema channel 11.

He stated that the measure is due to the external pressures that President Luis Abinader receives, after the recent complaint made by the former President of the Republic, Leonel Fernández, of the alleged mafia that exists between the migration and consular agencies.

“This complaint is based on data, look for the data from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we have it there, we are going to look for the official data,” Maldonado pointed out regarding the assertions of the leader of the opposition party.

He added that if the immigration provision is partially applied, the construction sector “will completely collapse” since more than 80% of the workers in the area are of that nationality.
He explained that the situation is also reflected in the agricultural sector, because Dominican land workers have abandoned the area.

Traffic lights
Regarding the arrests of Jochi Gómez, head of the company Transcore Latam, and the former director of INTRANT, Hugo Beras, for the controversial case of the Traffic Light Network of the National District, he said that this is also a response to the complaint of the president of the People’s Force , about the alleged “espionage” using those traffic control lights.

“Jochy Gómez is a person who has already had that type of connection, and who was prosecuted in 2012, the Attorney General’s Office had to react and respond,” said the opposition leader.

Domingo and Amarante
Given the recent resignation and expulsion of the senior leaders of the PLD, Domingo Contreras and Amarante Baret, he said that the People’s Force has its “doors open” to receive them.

“There is no conversation, but Domingo Contreras said that he was leaving but the conviction that a strong opponent must be created,” said the member of the Political Commission of that party.
