Rubén Blades calls Residente and J Balvin ‘peace’ through a rap
ToThe dispute between Residente and J Balvin has left the waters murky in the world of music with comments for and against one or another musician. This time the one who came out to give his opinion, through a rap, was the legendary Panamanian musician and actor Rubén Blades.
The musician titled his short video of just under a minute, “Don’t pay attention to those things.” Blades clarified that he got into the fight “because my name is out there going around. So, anyway, they took me there, I’m going to make a short comment, in the appropriate language, he said before releasing the song.
With music from “Le Becerrap” the lyrics of the rap say:
“My name has appeared on social networks and newspapers,
and that foreign conflict today forces me to comment.
Make no mistake, I want this to be clear,
José or René because I love them as brothers.
When sometimes the rage at my reason twists,
I tell myself Rubencito, eagle does not hunt fly,
It’s not love and affection, it’s love and control
letting the child screech is sometimes better.
There is an old truth that only the good learn,
gold never buys who does not sell his soul.
To the heated mood, I recommend ending it,
calm down listening to the album of the year, “Salswing!”
“Swinging!” in Puerto Rico on May 14, don’t miss it,
don’t pay attention to those things, don’t pay attention to those things.”
The album that Blades refers to and promotes is “Salswing!”, which won the Latin Grammy for album of the year in 2021, one of the most important categories of the night, and which is also nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of best traditional tropical Latin album.
Why was Rubén Blades left in the middle of this fight?
The conflict between Residente and J Balvin originally arose in September 2021, after Balvin proposed —again— a boycott against the Latin Grammys, which according to the Colombian he did not value the artists of the urban genre.
“They don’t value us, but they need us. We give them a rating, but they don’t give us respect,” Balvin said. through a tweet that he later deleted.
Shortly after this message, Residente reacted through his Instagram with a video in which he criticized Balvin’s request his colleagues not to attend the Latin Grammy ceremonywhere they would pay tribute to the life and career of Rubén Blades.
“To make matters worse, this year they dedicate it to Rubén Blades. In other words, you are telling the people of the urban genre to boycott the awards and not to celebrate the artistic life of Rubén Blades, cab***. A guy who marked the history of Latin American music, a guy who, unlike you, writes his songs and feels them, “Resident said in the video, which was also removed from his Instagram account.
Residente was also in charge of delivering the Person of the Year award to Blades during the televised Latin Grammy ceremony.
Blades also features in the lyrics of Residente’s song in collaboration with the Argentine producer Bizarrap, in which he got even with Balvin once and for all.
“What Rubén said, the Resident supports it. Although it changes color, I always know where it comes from“says the jerk.
The bar refers to Blades’ 1991 song “Chameleon”part of the album “Walking”.
