Seven public and philanthropic hospitals in Rio Grande do Sul that were affected by the floods in April and May will receive support to recover and improve their management capacity after the disaster. The aid will come from two private hospitals, through the Support Program for the Institutional Development of the Unified Health System (Proadi-SUS), of the Ministry of Health.
Called Emergency Support for Hospital Management in Rio Grande do Sul, the project seeks to strengthen the public system in Rio Grande do Sul after the extreme weather event.
HCor, in São Paulo, and Hospital Moinhos de Vento, in Porto Alegre, will diagnose the situation of the seven hospitals, which were directly or indirectly affected by the floods, and will work on producing action plans, training leaders and monitoring results.
Measures to be adopted include assessing the impacts of the floods and restructuring the healthcare network, reviewing the administrative structures of hospitals, analyzing their financial situation and improving the provision of patient care. Improvements to the purchasing and supply processes of supplies, the promotion of facilities and equipment and the evaluation of IT systems are also planned.
An emergency diagnosis will be ready in ten days. From there, a structural diagnosis will be made, which is expected to be completed in two months.
Six hospitals have already been chosen by the health departments and the ministry: Canoas University Hospital; Canoas Emergency Hospital; Porto Alegre Cardiology Hospital; Presidente Vargas Hospital; Vila Nova Hospital and Restinga and Extremo Sul Hospital. The seventh is being defined by the municipal health departments of Porto Alegre and the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
