The President of the Senate, Roy Barreras, It is perhaps the most important political file of the Government of Gustavo Petro in the Congress of the Republic and has been in charge of moving forward with the legislative agenda that is being promoted.
However, the presence of Barreras would not be for the four years that the period for which he was elected lasts. Sources of the Historical Pact assure that the political leader would have made the decision to resign from his seat in July 2023, when his term as president of the corporation ends.

According to the sources consulted, President Petro would have the intention of appointing him ambassador and it is preliminarily believed that he would send him to Portugal.
The withdrawal of Barreras would take place after carrying out the so-called “exchange reforms”which were promised during the political campaign, among which are the political reform, the health reform, the pension reform, the labor reform, among others.
The political leader has been in the Congress of the Republic for nearly 20 years, has been a representative in the Chamber and a senator of the Republic and has been active in parties such as Cambio Radical, Partido de la U and now Pacto Histórico. Nowadays, Barreras has been facing a strong fight against cancer, which has kept him in a delicate state of health.
The possible resignation of Roy Barreras adds to the one that other congressmen, from the Petrista bench, could present soon, as is the case of Senator Gustavo Bolívarwho said he will leave his seat next year to return to his profession as a writer and director of television productions.

Even, there is talk that some parliamentarians would also be analyzing the possibility of leaving their seat before December 31, 2022, to aspire in the regional elections that will be voted on next year throughout the country and one of the most desirable positions would be the Mayor of Bogotá.
