Roxana García Lorenzo: “This is what they do to innocent people”

Roxana García Lorenzo

MIAMI, United States.- “We don’t know why, he is not a criminal,” were the words of Roxana García Lorenzo live for CubaNet this morning, during the broadcast of La Red with Cuba. García Lorenzo thus denounced the arrest of her boyfriendJonathan Lopez.

The young activist, who together with his family coordinates the initiative “Help the Brave of 11J”, was arrested by a State Security agent when they were both on their way to work. “He has not committed any crime, but this is what they do to innocent people,” Roxana said.

García Lorenzo explained that they have been harassing them since last week, and have summoned Jonathan to appear at the Unit. The young woman reported that the repression against her family has not stopped, that it has even intensified, and that now the State Security follows them everywhere.

“I have been told that the streets of Santa Clara are militarized, and they are afraid that July 11 will be seen again, and it is not for less because there is a lot that is being experienced, not only with the blackouts, but with the misery that there is, with the hunger that is passed,” he said.

Regarding the initiative carried out by her family, with which they help the mothers and relatives of the political prisoners of 11J, Roxana García Lorenzo assures that the regime uses it as an excuse to continue the repression, since it bothers them that they help with food and I support those families who suffer for their loved ones.

“Many mothers from La Güinera, who are supported by the group, have been summoned, but these things are not exposed because they are afraid,” he explained.

For her part, Bárbara Farrat, mother of political prisoner Jonathan Torres Farrat, who was released on bail until the day of trial last May, said that the regime is looking for a way to shut up the mothers and families of the prisoners. 11J protesters.

During the conversation, Farrat also said that she has stopped going to Security summonses, since they no longer even summon her formally, they call her on the phone, and she no longer answers. “That has cost me a lot.” The last thing, she explains, was the right to feed her family.

After she and her husband began denouncing in August 2021 the situation of Jonathan Torres, a minor and imprisoned for protesting 11J, Bárbara explained that the Security confiscated her husband’s means of work and imposed a fine of 10 thousand pesos. Their license has since been withdrawn. Now, when she was about to get one of hers to sell peanuts and thus help her family financially, they denied her.

“We realized that they didn’t want to let us work,” he said.
