Rotten food and moldy bread in Valle Grande, denounces the political prisoner Moncho Pérez

Ramón (Moncho) Pérez Conde, Valle Grande

Havana Cuba. – “The food is rotten, they are killing people in here,” denounces the political prisoner Ramón (Moncho) Pérez Conde by telephone from the Valle Grande prison in Havana.

As stated to CubaNet the activist, the food they are giving in the prison is “spoiled”, the mincemeat cakes are given “with a rotten smell” and “sometimes the bread has mold”. Moncho also referred to the small amount of food they receive, mainly protein.

“During the day they give pea stew and in the afternoon only pumpkin soup, without substance, without protein. When he touches chicken, it does not even reach 100 grams, ”said the opponent, imprisoned for a year for the alleged crime of contempt.

In addition, Moncho Pérez says that “the cakes” that they are given as a main dish are “the size of a peso” and “the rice cups are approximately six small spoonfuls of food.” However, he explains that when a high-ranking official visits Valle Grande, “lunch is better than ever.”

Meanwhile, those inmates who frequently criticize or denounce the situation in the prison are locked up in punishment cells, restricted from family visits or beaten, he says.

This was the case of the political prisoner Tony Alberto Salazar Deulofeo, also incarcerated in the Valle Grande prison, who he was beaten up two months ago for denouncing and criticizing the poor quality of the food in that prison.

“One day they made an infusion with the same water where they boiled the eggs and in it you could see the little pieces of shells, and another day they brought scrambled eggs that were green, with a bad smell,” Salazar Deulofeo denounced on that occasion.

According to the relative of another political prisoner who requested anonymity for fear of reprisals, they are not allowing any fruit, juice or guava candy to enter Valle Grande “because they caught some inmates making wine or some alcoholic beverage.”

Recently, official spokesman Humberto López visited some penitentiary centers such as the Combinado del Este prison and the San Francisco de Paula Youth Detention Center, where he showed an impeccable image of those facilities and of the inmates.

In the San Francisco de Paula camp, when asked by the presenter of the television program “Hacemos Cuba” about the food situation, the detainees said that it was “good” and that they were given “breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack before going to bed. to sleep”.
