The head of the Federal Intelligence Agency (AFI), Agustín Rossi, said this Sunday that President Alberto Fernández “has the pen and is constantly making decisions“, and pointed out that his task in the organization he leads will be “to continue with the professionalization framework and emphasize the production of national strategic intelligence.”
In dialogue with Radio Rivadavia, Rossi considered that “It is very healthy for the President to think about the possibility of re-election, because it would be unnatural if it were not so“, and added that “Alberto has the pen and is permanently making decisions, otherwise we would not have signed the agreement with the IMF”, referring to the understanding reached with the credit institution.
The official stated that his opinion is that “The Front of All (FdT) could use a STEP very well” in the 2023 elections.
“The other coalition (for the opposition of Together for Change) is surely going to have STEP and we would give a lot of electoral advantage if we force the concretion of a single list”he added.
She then referred to her task at the head of the AFI and that of her predecessor, Cristina Caamaño: “That objective that the President had set for her to get the agency out of the basements of democracy, was done very well,” she praised her.
“Now the challenge that remains for us is to move forward with the agency’s professionalization framework and emphasize the production of national strategic intelligence”pointed out about this new stage.
The official asked not to confuse “intelligence with espionage,” and remarked that “national strategic intelligence is something else, it is being able to give decision makers, first of all the President or whoever he designates, the greatest amount of qualified information so that they can incorporate to your situation picture.
In another section of the interview, Rossi praised the act that 10 days ago was led by the President and Vice President Cristina Fernández for the 100 years of YPF.
“What I felt is that the debate had begun to de-escalate” within the ruling party, he commented.
And he repeated: “It does not mean that the differences have ceased to exist, but that they begin to find a more dialogued way.”
