The president of the Congress of the Republic, Fernando Rospigliosirejected the possibility of a possible vacancy motion against the president José Jerí by the emergency decree that provides for the reorganization of Petroperú.
“After a turbulent period that we have had in the country in recent years and in recent months, from my point of view it is absurd to try, once again, to produce a situation of more instability,” said the head of the Legislature.
Days ago, the parliamentarian for Peru Libre, Segundo Montalvo, announced that he would present a vacancy motion against President Jerí for the decree that Petroperú organizes and provides that the Private Investment Promotion Agency (Proinversión) assumes the design and integral execution of the process.
According to the legislator, the rule “puts the country’s energy security at risk and constitutes a covert privatization of the state company that, as is known, has generated billions of soles in losses for the Peruvian State.
It is worth mentioning in this regard that according to the Minister of Economy and Finance, Denisse Miralles, Petroperú’s debts, to date, total more than 5,000 million dollars; Only until October 2025, net losses amounted to 1,611 million soles.
In this context, the head of Parliament expressed his opinion against the presentation of a vacancy motion in the middle of the electoral process and added that he trusts that the government will have a neutral behavior during the elections that will take place this year.
“I trust that both the President of the Republic and the President of the Council of Ministers are going to develop this process in the most objective manner possible; so, at this point, trying to destabilize the country again seems absurd and out of place to me,” he indicated.
