Nicaragua’s deputy president, Rosario Murillo, dedicated the introduction to her customary speech to “reflecting” on the “defense of peace and sovereignty,” words that come a day after her regime sent a letter to the United States Department of State United in rejecting the candidate as ambassador of the North American country, Hugo Rodríguez.
Murillo expressed that his regime maintains “political maturity, and we do what we must do to guarantee that intellectual defense, that mental defense, that spiritual defense of a heroic patrimony because that is our Nicaragua, a heroic patrimony of national dignity, of national decorum, of national honor, which no one can take from us or hurt us.

The government spokeswoman added that “for us, that defense of peace, dignity, sovereignty, the common good in our Nicaragua is based on principles, it is based on values and it is invariable.” In turn, Murillo sent a message to his militancy to protect “the stability and prosperity of our Nicaragua that we love so much and that we are so capable of defending,” a protection that some interpret with the imposition of a de facto police state .
“Dignity of our heroic people, noble people, brave people, how we defend it. Because, well, it’s not a matter of discussing issues of sovereignty, it’s a matter of knowing how to defend them with our hearts held high, knowing how to defend them while keeping in mind all Nicaraguans, all patriotic Nicaraguans who we have known at different stages of our history to courageously assume , with love that defense, “Murillo continued adding.
On July 28, the foreign minister of the Nicaraguan dictatorship, Dennis Moncada, appeared at a surprise conference stating that they would not allow any diplomat to “disrespect, offend, humiliate, threaten, play a leading role or be a factor of interference or interventionism in the internal affairs of our country”. In addition, he indicated that this communication was addressed to the State Department and the ambassador in Managua, Kevin Sullivan.

The candidate for ambassador of the North American country had promised before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to continue denouncing the abuses of power by the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo. “I promise to work with Congress, inter-institutional colleagues and international partners to press for the return to democracy, respect for human rights and the freedom of political prisoners in Nicaragua,” said the applicant.
In his speech he concluded by promising that “we will do what we can to offer the Nicaraguan people a better future in their own country. We know that addressing the root causes of irregular migration and forced displacement, throughout Central America and Nicaragua included, implies guaranteeing respect for human rights, generating economic opportunities and improving citizen security.”
