MADRID, Spain.- The coordinator of the citizen platform Cuba Decide, Rosa María Payá, asked before the Geneva Summit to expel the Cuban dictatorship from the Human Rights Council.
This Tuesday “we denounce the horrendous situation that is being experienced in Cuba, and how the regime is causing one of the biggest refugee crises in recent times,” due to the number of Cubans who “have fled the dictatorship,” he explained. Payá during a direct transmission through Facebook.
The opposition also denounced the economic crisis that affects families on the island, as well as the existence of more than 1,000 political prisoners in Cuban prisons, including minors, with sentences of up to 18 years in prison.
During the press conference, opponents and human rights defenders from different parts of the world also asked to expel Russia from the Human Rights Council and there will be a vote in the United Nations General Assembly for this, he explained.
If expelling Russia is being considered, Cuba could also be expelled, which has signed a strategic and military agreement with the Vladimir Putin regime, behind the backs of the Cuban people, Payá considered.
“It is a shame that the regime sits on that Council. (…) It is time to denounce the terror against political prisoners and their mothers, against every Cuban who raises his voice”, the opponent said.
“This regime is not only a danger to the Cuban people, but also to the hemisphere, for being the best ally of the genocidal Vladimir Putin. It is time for the Human Rights Council to react and expel Cuba,” he added.
Last March 30thRosa María Payá reported to the British Parliament on the precarious situation of Cubans and asked for their support so that the people recover their sovereignty.
