The organization Dominican Republic Roof activated its emergency protocol and launched a process of community mapping to identify the most affected areas.
The action is a response to the persistent rains caused by the Tropical Storm Melissawhich have left accumulations of up to 300 millimeters (12 inches) in the southwest of the country and between 150 and 200 millimeters (˜6 to 8 inches) in Greater Santo Domingo.
According to reports from the Emergency Operations Center (COE), the provinces of Barahona, Pedernales, Bahoruco, Azua, Peravia, San Cristóbal, San José de Ocoa, San Juan, Santo Domingo, the National District and Independencia are located in red alert due to the risk of floods, landslides and river flooding.
