Rondón double for River to continue leading and Boca sinks

River Plate maintains its path seamlessly in the Professional League Tournament of Argentine football and, after its 0-3 away win against Huracán, remains as sole leader with four points of advantage over his escort, San Lorenzo.

With two goals from the Venezuelan Solomon Rondon and the rest of Esequiel Barco, from a penalty, the ‘Millionaire’ added his eighth victory in the championship to total 24 points and leave behind the setback suffered last Tuesday in La Paz against Bolívar in his debut for the Copa Libertadores.

Second place in the standings was left alone with 20 points for San Lorenzo, who beat Atlético Tucumán 3-1 on Saturday in a match shrouded in controversy but which allowed the ‘Cyclone’ to round off an ideal week after the victory against Estudiantes in Mérida on Tuesday for its premiere in Copa Sudamericana.

Rosario Central did not access this second step, which this Sunday drew a goalless draw with Newell’s Old Boys as a visitor in a new edition of the Rosario derby, and Racing Club, which on Saturday suffered a tough 3-1 defeat against Gimnasia in La Plata.

Boca Juniorsfor his part, with his future coach Jorge Almirón in the box, added his fourth loss in the tournament when they fell 1-2 at La Bombonera against bottom club Colón de Santa Fe, who achieved their first victory in the contest.

Ramón Ábila and the Uruguayan Andrew Teuten converted for the winner at the last minute, while the Paraguayan Óscar Romero scored the only goal for ‘Xeneize’, who had come from a goalless draw on Thursday as a visitor to Monagas in his Libertadores debut.

In other results of this tenth day, Talleres was in third place after his 3-0 win against Barracas Central on Friday, Independiente added a new setback 1-2 against Estudiantes de La Plata in Avellaneda and Lanús agreed to the fourth place with Racing after beating Arsenal de Sarandí 3-0.
