On the night of this Tuesday, the National Party militant, Romina Celeste Papasso Oliver, published a screenshot on Twitter in which a WhatsApp chat is seen in which, supposedly, she would have written to President Luis Lacalle Pou to ask him to hire her as director of Coexistence and Citizen Security of the Ministry of the Interior.
This position has been vacant since the scandalous resignation of the former chief, Santiago González, who was treated irregularly at the Police Hospital.
“President, I am at your disposal to start working 24/7, I want to fill the position of citizen coexistence. I promise that at the end of my tenure I will surprise everyone”, Papasso Oliver wrote on WhatsApp.
And he added: “The people are the ones who have the strength, together we can. RT”. Immediately afterwards, he asked his Twitter followers not to have insults in the comments because the message “is for the president.”
The government could eliminate this position
Currently, the government is considering the elimination of the position of Director of Coexistence and Citizen Security within the Ministry of the Interior.
According to government sources who spoke anonymously with the media, after Santiago González resigned from his post, President Lacalle’s intention was to engage in broad discussions with the coalition, search for a suitable profile and name someone you trust. Several names would have been on the final list, but there is no consensus to define one.
The Ministry of the Interior put some names on the table, but none finished convincing Lacalle. Initially, it was said that the president would make a quick decision. However, as the hours passed and conversations ensued, the momentum faded. On Tuesday, sources told Telemundo that there is “no rush” to fill the position and that removal was being considered entirely.
The position was created in the 2007 Rendición de Cuentas, which was approved the following year. The first hierarch was appointed in 2015 during the management of Eduardo Bonomi in the Ministry.
