Romario will not be present this weekend in the Netherlands. The former striker was going to go to PSV for the presentation of a new book about his years in the team of Eindhoven. But the 59-year-old Brazilian informed the club that he was canceling his visit for medical reasons. And the former footballer and popular Dutch sports journalist Johan Derksen has reacted harshly in ‘Vandaag Inside’. At the moment, it remains unclear whether his visit will be possible at a later date.
The last time Romário was in Eindhoven was at the end of 2022. At the invitation of sponsor Energiedirect, he was included in the Walk of Fame, which immortalizes the club’s icons and some coaches. The intention was for Romário to present author Frans van den Nieuwenhof’s book later this week and hold some book signing sessions. Van den Nieuwenhof recently documented the Brazilian forward’s years at PSV (1988-1993), before joining Barça, and revealed new details about his contract.

Furthermore, on the occasion of his arrival, plans had been prepared to make Romário an honorary citizen of Eindhoven. Despite his absence, Van den Nieuwenhof’s book is already receiving the necessary attention. In Vandaag Inside, Derksen reacted harshly to the cancellation. According to him, Romário “remains unreliable in the commitments he makes. He is missing again, so he remains the same as always. A great footballer, but useless when it comes to fulfilling commitments.”
