Alejandro Astesiano testified as a witness before prosecutor Fernando Romano last Friday, while prosecutor Gabriela Fossati was still on medical leave, sources familiar with the case told The Observer. Romano interviewed him at the prison where the former presidential custodian is being held.
The idea behind that statement was for Astesiano to provide information on the cases that remain open.
Romano subrogated Fossati after the prosecutor requested a 15-day medical leave. However, in the middle of her certification, the prosecutor decided to go back to work.
After his return to work, Fossati had a discussion with Romano and reported him administratively to the Court Prosecutor’s Office, which began an urgent investigation.
